Alumni Talk 2015

30 Jul 2015

Many universities have their semester breaks in this part of the year, and so it is not unusual for Malaysian students to return home during this time. MCKL’s current students therefore had something special in store for them: eighteen of their seniors studying in the UK and US came back to the College to share about their experiences in university. Amongst them were those who had been accepted into prestigious universities like the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Imperial College, London School of Economics, Messiah College and several others.

The talk was held in the College auditorium on the 30th of July. Each alumnus was individually introduced, and most of them took to the stage to speak of the steps they took to enter university and how they have to cope with their new responsibilities in tertiary education and independent living.

Many of the alumni gave details on the demands of their respective courses as well as advice on what students can expect in their respective programmes, placing emphasis on research and preparation to ensure that students know what they are getting into before making a commitment to their choice. They also went over the qualities of their respective universities and countries of residence in detail.

Once the allotted time for the formal portion of the talk was up, the floor was opened to students to ask them specific questions about their experiences. Overall, it was a very informative session for the current students, and we hope that they will eventually follow in the footsteps of their seniors.
