MCKL Debating Championship 2016

15 Jul 2016

debate1Last month, the Debate Club of Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) organised a Debating Championship to be held on the College campus. MCKL fielded eight out of the total of 40 teams that gathered on campus from all over the region, lending a heated atmosphere to the tournament which was hosted in the British Parliamentary format and lasted from the 15th to the 17th of July 2016.

It was an intense series of debates where team members brought all of their skills in reasoning and articulation to bear, and all of the participants displayed a degree of intellectuality and perseverance that lived up to MCKL’s motto of Excellence for Life. Three out of MCKL’s eight teams made it into the semi-finals, and one of them managed to clinch the title of Grand Champion. Levinthran (1507S) won the Overall Best Speaker Award whilst his partner, Wong Kah Hoong (1501A) attained the Finals Best Speaker Award.

MCKL’s Debate Club is proud of its teams’ achievements and hopes to maintain and improve upon its performance in the Malaysian debating scene. The College supports this endeavour and hopes that the youth of Malaysia would aspire to the excellence displayed by all of the participants.
