MCKL Climate Conference 2015

25 Jul 2015

On Saturday the 25th of July 2015, MCKL hosted its first ever Climate Conference on campus. The philosophy behind the Conference was to create awareness and empower the students at MCKL concerning urgent environmental issues worldwide. The College’s vision is excellence for life, and so aims to nurture future leaders who will become stewards of God’s creation in their respective industries.

The guest of honour and keynote speaker was Luc Vandebon, who joined the European Comission in 1985 and has more than twenty years of experience in European Union Delegations in Asia in the capacity of Head of Political, Trade, Economic and Public Affairs. The panellists included Matthias Gelber, who graduated with a Masters in Environmental Science from Brunel University in the UK and went on to start a successful environmental consulting company in 1999; Awatif Ghapar, who is currently a Project Analyst in Leaderonomics Campus Team and a co-founder of several NGOs such as ‘Dapur Jalanan Waste Team’ and ‘Chow Kit Kids Street Learning’, and Michaelle Phoenix, who is the Youth Ambassador for the energy-saving movement, Negawatt Revolution.

In attendance were the Chairman and Members of the Board of Management, MCKL, as well as the CEO and Management Team, staff, and over two hundred students of the College.

Key items on the agenda included the welcome address by Mr Troy Keegan, the MC and Chairman of MCKL Climate Change Conference 2015, the keynote address and official opening delivered by Mr Vandebon, and an overview speech by Mr Gelber. The panel discussion with Q&A was subsequently opened up, and an encouraging number of students took the opportunity to participate and contribute.

Special thanks to the team of MCKL students and staff who worked tirelessly to make this event a success, as to the sponsors, Faber-Castell (M) Sdn Bhd, Percetakan S & M and Textbookasia Sdn Bhd, who made this event possible!
