ADTP Alumni Lands Job in Top Tech Company

Situated in a rural area of West Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue University is a public research university that is best known for its technological programs and engineering major. It ranks #57 among national universities, and its computer engineering is ranked 10th overall (U.S. News). With notable alumni such as Neil Armstrong and Gene Cernan, Purdue University is a prestigious university that's well-known by many. Recently, Luke Kok Tee Xuan, one of our ADTP@MCKL alumni from Purdue, visited us to give students an insight into his experience of studying at Purdue University.

Luke Kok, who transferred in Fall 2017, was best known by lecturers for his mathematical expertise and technical skills, so it's no surprise that engineering was his choice of major. When talking about his time at Purdue, he speaks highly of it, "Its engineering program is very solid. The facilities and technology there are cutting edge, you can learn a lot from them, especially the professors."

From career fairs in Purdue to internships to technical projects, Luke shared about everything under the sun about his experience at Purdue. In particular, he emphasized much about building connections and finding early opportunities while in the States, "When you go to career fairs, you're trying to expose yourself to what people expect of you. In my case, I have a lot of good friends, with connections, who would introduce me to recruiters I could talk to."

Initially an Electrical Engineering major, Luke discovered his passion for coding and computer science while studying at Purdue University. In his sophomore years, while taking both electrical and computer engineering courses, he realized how much more he enjoyed coding, and thus, a change was made.

When he was in MCKL, math classes were his personal favorites, and he managed to transfer a total of 66 credits from MCKL to Purdue that counted towards his graduation. When asked about why he chose Purdue University, he said, 'it is one of the top universities that is the most affordable.' And when he was asked about how MCKL, more specifically ADTP, helped him grow: 'It helped me manage my time better, and it helped me cope better in the U.S. It was more intense there, but MCKL was able to provide a strong foundation for me to transition to higher classes in the U.S.'

Luke landed a job at one of the top tech companies in the U.S., and MCKL wishes him the best of luck!

The American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP) is a credit transfer program that gives students a fast track to American universities. Students can choose courses from a wide variety of fields, ranging from applied sciences to the liberal arts. Since its inception in 2014, ADTP@MCKL has transferred more than 150 students to a American university of their choice. Contact us today to find out more about this program!
