2016 MCKL Teaching Scholarship Recipients

06 Sep 2016

The MCKL Teaching Scholarship award was inaugurated in 2013 to recognise the need for quality teachers and to encourage MCKL graduands to take up teaching as a profession. The Scholarship is awarded to high-achieving individuals who have a keen passion for teaching and who desire to make a difference in the lives of young people by sharing their love of knowledge and being role models. Application is open to graduating MCKL students who have gained admission to top tier universities in selected disciplines of study.

The inaugural recipient Ms Chan Yen Ping completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Cambridge, UK earlier this year and has now joined the teaching faculty in MCKL. Ms Melissa Chew Li Mei has also completed her studies in EarlyChildhood Care and Education at Institute of Technology Tralee, Ireland and is now serving as a lecturer in the Early Childhood Education programme. Currently there are three MCKL Teaching Scholars at various stages of their undergraduate studies in UK and US universities.

This year, MCKL is proud to announce that two scholarships have been awarded by the Scholarship Board of MCKL after a rigorous selection process. The recipients are:

  •  Christina Chan Qian Ying who is reading for her Economics degree at the University of Sydney, Australia
  •  Catherine Mei-Yan Bakewell who is reading English in Education at University of York, UK

It is our hope that future MCKL students will benefit from the education of these passionate, dedicated and qualified teachers when they return to serve their alma mater
